Keep it local

Large scale projects like "national bike map" or "global trash map" reduce relevance and interest for any given user. Pick a study area, or create multiple projects for multiple study areas. Be sure to set the location in the Project Settings.

Explain the key details.

Keep it simple and concise!

Use "Calls to Action"

Every page should have a short call to action.

On the landing page:

"Click next to continue and view the map"

On the mapping page:

"Click the map to report a harassment incident"

On the content page:

"Help our research by answering a few questions about yourself"

On the conclusion page:

"Connect with us on social media for project updates"

Naming map layers

Because users are asked to choose a layer, you should short and concise words, written in singular or imperative language.

👎🏾 Do not name your layer with a plural, like "trees", "bicycle lanes", "neighborhoods"

👎🏾 Do not name your layer with a question, like "would you like to mark a tree**?" "report harassment?**"

👍🏾 Instead, say something like "mark a tree", "report harassment", or use plain singular language like "tree", "bicycle rack", "street light".
